Both Mental Health Peer Specialist (MHPS) and Recovery Support Peer Specialist (RSPS) certifications require a total of 20 CEUs for each renewal period. Within those 20 hours, at least 3 CEUs must be ethics-related. The remaining 17 CEUs can be general peer-support topics.
Think of it like this:
- 20 CEUs total = everything you need for the renewal
- 3 Ethics CEUs = required subset of that total
- 17 General CEUs = flexible and topic-based
Ethics CEUs are included within the 20-hour requirement, not in addition to it. All CEUs must be earned during your active certification period and should be documented in case verification is requested during renewal.
