CORE Training for Peer Specialist
This is the full HHSC-approved training. Students that complete the course and successfully complete the knowledge assessment will obtain their 6-month initial certification, working towards your 2-year state certification.
The CORE training is a comprehensive, 6-hour facilitated webinar that provides participants with a foundational understanding of the principles and practices of recovery-oriented mental health and peer support. The training is conducted via Zoom and is designed to be interactive and engaging, allowing participants to learn from each other’s experiences and perspectives.
The CORE training is a prerequisite to the Mental Health Peer Specialist and Recovery Support Peer Specialist training. This training is intended for individuals who have lived experience with mental health challenges or substance use disorders and wish to use their personal experiences to help others on their recovery journeys.
During the CORE training, participants will explore a range of topics related to mental health recovery, including the importance of self-determination and autonomy, the role of peer support in recovery, and the principles of trauma-informed care. Participants will also learn about the different types of peer support and the various roles that peer specialists can play in supporting individuals with mental health challenges.
